Mayor: Muslim community in Bacolod vital to growth-A A +A
Monday, July 28, 2014
WITH the Muslim community all over the world celebrating the Eid’l Fitr, or the Feast of Breaking the Fast that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Mayor Monico Puentevella said that Bacolod City is one with them in their celebration.
The city’s prolific relationship with its Muslim brothers and sisters is a product of mutual respect, the mayor said.
Puentevella said the city’s Muslim community is a vital component in the continuing growth of Bacolod in terms of economic development and as a city without religious prejudice.
“In behalf of the City of Bacolod, I am one with the whole Muslim citizenry as they reinvigorate their faith through this distinguished festival,” the mayor said. He also said that his administration will continue the city’s legacy of support to the Islamic community.
Muslims are known for their deep faith in Allah and Ramadan instills the virtue of humility, patience and forgiveness. Fasting also inspires the devout with abstinence and self-acceptance.
Pursuant to Republic Act 9177, President Aquino signed Proclamation 826 or the declaration of July 29, 2014 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr.
Further, the proclamation, which was signed by the President last July 10, aims to “promote cultural understanding and integration” and to “bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness.” (PR)
