THE owner of Campuestohan Highland Resort in Talisay City is the lone Negrense nominee in the national Search for Tourism Star of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Ralph Richard Tan, owner and manager of the said resort, is a nominee in the Individual Category.

Also known as “Siote,” he is the son of former Transportation Assistant Secretary Ricardo “Cano” Tan, who used to be a councilor of Bacolod City.

Campuestohan Highland Resort, which held its grand launching last May, is considered the crown jewel of tourist destination in Negros Occidental and Western Visayas.

The young Tan said that he does all-around work from being manager, gatekeeper, rescuer, conflict pacifier to public relations officer, of the resort.

“Being hands on in what you do is truly an ingredient for success. As family, we have our respective work every day of our operations. There are many concerns that we have to deal with every day, but with the cooperation and team work that we have as a family and with our personnel, we can always manage even the toughest challenge in operating a resort,” he said.

Campuestohan Highland Resort was built from grassland, now it has blossomed into a top tourist destination in the province, he said.

DOT Investments Promotion Officer Janice Esmane and tourism officer Sarah Gemanil interviewed Tan at the DOT-6 office in Iloilo City last June 26.

The objective of the DOT award is to instill a culture of tourism in every Filipino and motivate them to extend an efficient, professional and thoughtful service to tourists given with the genuine warmth and hospitality, to help raise the competitiveness of the Philippines as tourist destination, and also to engage the participation of the Filipinos and tourists in the “It's more fun” campaign through distinct stories that bear testament to Filipino hospitality.

The winners will be awarded by President Aquino in rites at Malacañang in September. (CNC)
