Albee’s brother says he’s not running for Congress-A A +A

JOSE Francisco "Kiko" Benitez, brother of Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez (Third District), dismissed reports that he is running for congressman to succeed his brother if the lawmaker’s plan to aim for a senatorial slot pushes through.
“I have no intention of running. I’m running a school in Manila," said Kiko Benitez, who is currently the president of Philippine Women’s University.
At the launching of the 2014 Brainsbee Ni Albee Sa District 3 Program held in Barangay Cansilayan, Murcia Saturday, he told reporters that he graced the program because it is the project of his brother and of the Betty Bantug-Benitez Foundation Inc. (BBBFI).
“I was sent here by the foundation to open Brainsbee,” he said.
Asked if he has political inclinations, he replied: “I have an academic inclination. I don't know. We'll see."
Moreover, he was mum about his brother’s reported senatorial bid in the 2016 elections.
“I have no idea. Ask him. I don’t even know if he’s running," Kiko Benitez said.
The congressman is reportedly being invited by President Benigno Aquino III to join the administration's senatorial ticket in 2016.
Brainsbee ni Albee, launched in 2009, is a community-based academic excellence contest open to students who are residents of Victorias City, Silay City, Talisay City, E.B. Magalona and Murcia.
Contests in spelling, math and science for elementary and high school students are held in community centers in all of the 115 barangays in the Third District. (TDE)
