"EVERYTHING is back to normal between the municipal officials and the parish priests of Immaculate Conception Church."

This was declared by Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano of Murcia as he confirmed their reconciliation with Fr. Greg Patiño and Fr. Agustin Hinayan after a conflict that stemmed from the issues on the proliferation of illegal gambling and illegal drug operations in the municipality.

During their sermons, the priests supposedly called the town a “haven of illegal drugs” causing the mayor to criticize them.

Montelibano said the reconciliation happened after Bishop Vicente Navarra of the Diocese of Bacolod mediated by celebrating a mass at the Immaculate Conception Church Tuesday afternoon.

The mass was attended by all municipal officials, employees, barangay officials, and parishioners.

During the mass, Montelibano said the two priests spoke and made a public apology for their conflict with the local officials.

"I responded and explained that we only had different approaches in handling the problem and I also apologized during the mass," the mayor said.

He added that the Municipal Council will cancel their request for the transfer of the two priests from Murcia and the priests also withdrew their announcement denying the seven sacraments to Montelibano and the municipal councilors. (TDE)
