BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella said on Friday he will call for an investigation on the aborted selling of "ukay-ukay" or used clothing and other merchandise at the public plaza after the organizer and sellers demanded for a refund of the P300,00 they supposedly paid to Kasadya Bacolod Foundation Inc. (KBFI).

KBFI, headed by president and festival director Rhoderick Samonte, with the mayor’s son Rocky Puentevella as the City Mayor’s Office liaison, is tasked to initiate and organize programs, projects and events for the City of Bacolod, including the MassKara Festival.

"I will have it investigated and we will refund if necessary," the mayor said.

Puentevella had earlier ordered the sellers to stop their operations at the Gatuslao Street side of the public plaza.

The mayor added that he will answer all questions relative to the issue upon investigation.

“For now, there is no more selling of used or second hand clothing at the public plaza along Gatuslao Street,” he said.

The other side of the plaza fronting the San Sebastian Cathedral, owned by the Diocese of Bacolod, is occupied by stalls selling various merchandise.

Marfe Fernandez, organizer of the “ukay-ukay” exhibits, had earlier presented during a media interview the receipt for their P300,000 payment to KBFI to allow them to sell their merchandise at the plaza from April 1 to June 1.

Fernandez asked that they be refunded of the amount after the structures of the 32 exhibitors were demolished.

Meanwhile, Samonte said in a text message to the media yesterday that he is currently in Indonesia and is not aware of the issue.

“I have no access to our local newspapers there thus I cannot make any comment yet. I will be back on Saturday,” he added.
