MEMBERS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Western Visayas charged the two suspects in the P3.5-million drug haul in southern Negros before the Cadiz City Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday afternoon.

More than half a kilo of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), with an estimated market value of P3.5 million, was seized in Cadiz City Tuesday night.

The suspects were identified as Jonathan Sabordo Badilles, 49, of Tongoy Street, Barangay Zone 5, Cadiz City, and Kurt Reylan Majarucon, resident of Punta Cabahug, Barangay Zone 6.

Badilles was arrested while Majarucon escaped. Both are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Badilles, a former overseas worker in Saudi Arabia, arrived home earlier this month. He drives a tricycle for a living while in Cadiz.

He denied participation in illegal drug trade, saying that Majarucon just rented his tricycle.

Badilles, however, was found positive in drug a test, and is now detained at the lock-up cell of Cadiz City Police Office.

The shabu, which was wrapped in a carbon paper and placed inside an audio speaker system, was transported through a courier service going to Cadiz City.

PDEA Regional Director Paul Ledesma said this was done to evade x-ray or scanning machines since the supply came from Quezon City. (With reports from PNA)
