Leonardia to support one-island region proposal-A A +A

BACOLOD City Lone District Rep. Evelio Leonardia said he will support the measure establishing a one-island region for Negros.
“I am talking from experience. A Negros region will accelerate our development,” Leonardia said in a press statement.
He added that he saw the importance of a one-island region when he was still the provincial tourism officer of Negros Occidental in the ‘80s.
“From our work in tourism, I realized how much faster and more efficient things would be if the entire island belonged to one region. This was especially evident in the area of promotions,” the lawmaker said, adding that it would be a lot more effective and efficient if the entire island is promoted together.
Leonardia said that while Iloilo is technically just an hour away by ferry, locating the regional offices within the island will in fact give Negrenses accessibility and mobility all the time, making it far easier and faster to mobilize government programs and projects.
He added that it would also speed things up as matters and concerns that we now have to refer to the regional offices can immediately be addressed if these offices are located here.
He said it doesn’t matter where these Negros regional offices are located, whether in the north or south, adding that their location in the island will already make them attuned to our problems and their reaction time will be a lot shorter. (CNC)
