DR. ERNELL Tumimbang, provincial health officer of Negros Occidental, declared on Wednesday that the province is now free of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (Mers-Cov) after all six Negrense OFWs tested for the virus were found negative.
Tumimbang said that he was informed by Regional Director Marlyn Convocar of the Department of Health-6 about the negative results on the tests conducted on the specimen from two remaining OFWs who also arrived in the country last April 15 from United Arab Emirates.
We have no worries now as far as Mers- CoV is concerned, Tumimbang said.
The PHO chief, however, said the monitoring and vigilance against the deadly virus will continue and that they are in close coordination with the DOH regarding the matter.
He also encouraged those who are arriving in the country from Middle East countries to submit themselves to tests to make sure that the country remains Mers-CoV free.
He reiterated his appeal to the public to always observe proper personal hygiene which is the best defense against any virus.
