THE Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) of Negros Occidental have condemned the murder of village chief Edwin Peruelo of Barangay Kumaliskis, Salvador Benedicto.

The province’s ABC president Mark Cui expressed sympathy to the family of the murdered barangay captain. He said he is urging the police to speedily solve the murder so that justice can be served to the Peruelo family.

He added that he met Peruelo in a seminar on mediation at the Mambukal Resort last week. Peruelo, 35, was gunned down by an unidentified assailant during the village’s fiesta celebration in the evening of March 30. [Read the related story here.]

He was shot using a .45 caliber pistol while watching the Lin-ay sang Barangay Kumaliskis pageant close to midnight. He was declared dead at the Bacolod Adventists Medical Center.

Peruelo was survived by his wife, who is four months pregnant. Peruelo, a first-termer village chief, was an ally of Salvador Benedicto Mayor Jose Max Ortiz.

Superintendent Alexander Munoz, public information officer of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo), said they are investigating if the murder is related to politics, love triangle, and grudge.
