OFFICIALS of both Negros provinces will discuss the proposed One Negros Island in a meeting at the Nature's Village Hotel in Talisay City today.

Negros Oriental Vice Governor Edward Mark Macias along with several board members are in the province since Monday for the 21st Panaad Sa Negros festival.

Macias said the One Negros Island proposal has long been an effort of the officials of the two Negros provinces.

He added that it doesn’t need a congressional act to put the two Negros provinces together in one separate region.

"This is the first time I’m elected so I am introducing myself to the officials here. Hopefully, we can continue the line of communication and cooperation with your side of the Negros Island," Macias said.

He said the center of the region is a secondary matter that could be discussed later.

"We could have it in Kabankalan or Mabinay with some offices in Bacolod or Dumaguete. We still have to work it out," he added.

He said the grouping together in one separate region of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental would be an advantage to both provinces.

Those from the Occidental side would no longer need to take a ferry to go to the regional office to do transactions while those in the Oriental side would no longer need to go to Cebu to do the same.

At present, Negros Occidental is under Western Visayas region while Oriental is under Central Visayas.
