THE decomposing body of a male student who was earlier reported missing was found at the second floor of his house in Purok Sawmill 1, Barangay Bata, Bacolod City Wednesday afternoon.

One of the suspects believed to have killed the victim was arrested in a follow-up operation of Police Station 3.

Police identified the victim as Jerameel Esmeria, 19, a pharmacy student. His body was bundled in blankets and his head wrapped with plastic.

The victim was living in the house with their boarders.

Arrested was Izhar Castandiello, 37, a water delivery boy, and a resident of Purok Katilingban, Barangay Bata.

Senior Inspector Edgar Gulmatico, Police Station 3 chief, on Thursday said the victim’s body was found by his brother around 1:45 p.m.

Gulmatico said the victim’s belongings including his cellular phone, laptop computer, and wallet containing P2, 000 cash were missing.

It is believed that the victim was killed last Saturday since his family reported him missing that day, the police officer said.

He was found by his brother who came to the boarding house and encountered a foul odor, prompting him to check where it was coming from.

Castandiello was arrested in Barangay Bata around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect was observed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor during his arrest.

Gulmatico, who said they are conducting a follow-up operation to apprehend Candiello’s companion, said that one of the motives in the killing is robbery.

Candiello, however, denied that he killed the victim and said he never went to the house of Esmeria.
