IN THE wake of another deadly road accident in Negros Occidental that involved a Ceres Liner bus, the Yanson Group of Bus Companies, owner of Ceres Liner, appealed on Thursday for understanding of the riding public and for the media not to jump into any conclusion regarding the accident Tuesday.

Five persons were killed and 32 others were injured when a Ceres bus collided with a mini-bus in Barangay Pilar, Hinigaran town.

They are still waiting for the result of the investigation, said legal and media relations manager Jade Marquez Seballos said.

"As part of our company’s policy, we issue a directive to our drivers and conductors to establish ‘zero accident’ to ensure the safety of our passengers,” she added.

Seballos said that the management also implements enhancement programs for drivers and does its utmost best to minimize accidents by conducting seminar on road worthiness, traffic rules and regulations and other safety measures.

Also, they have put up two Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda)-accredited training centers.

Operator Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) is also conducting an extensive investigation about the cause of the said accident, Seballos said.

She said that the VTI management is providing financial assistance to the victims.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Bacolod City clarified that the Ceres bus involved in the latest accident was not out of route.

LTFRB-Bacolod head Arturo Gepes said he was the one who signed the special permit for Ceres Bus No. 541 driven by Jonathan Estoya Maghari.

The regular route is Bacolod to Canlaon vice versa but it was bound for Bacolod from Cebu when it encountered an accident.
