THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) recorded 57 fire incidents in Bacolod City from January 1 to February 26 this year, among the latest was the almost 12-hour blaze at a warehouse in Barangay Tangub on Wednesday.

Last year, the BFP listed 356 fire incidents that included grass fire, sugarcane fire, and electrical fire.

Chief Inspector Bartolome Beliran, city fire marshal, said most of the causes of fire in residential and business establishments were short circuit, electrical problems, and use of welding machine.

As the BFP leads the observance of the Fire Prevention Month this March, Beliran reminded Bacolodnons to be more careful to avoid fire incidents.

The BFP-Bacolod has lined up several activities this month to be held in different areas.

The Fire Prevention Month kicked off with a motorcade on Saturday morning followed by a mass at the BFP headquarters in San Juan Street, and a meeting with fire volunteers in the city.

Beliran said he issued a directive to all the personnel of BFP sub-stations at Lopez Jaena Street, Barangays Granada, Pahanocoy and Sum-ag, Libertad Street, and Rodriguez Avenue to conduct their fire safety awareness.

He added that on March 7, they will conduct a fire safety forum and house-to-house campaign with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Office of the City Mayor, barangay officials, and other sectors.

Beliran also directed fire fighters to conduct the “My Barangay, My Fire Safety Partner” campaign and to hold a Barangay Fire Program Day in their areas.

The BFP and the DRRMO will also put up “Mamamayan Kontra Kalayo” tarpaulins in different barangays in the city.
