THE operator of the Bacolod City slaughterhouse was told Thursday to pay P1.326 million to cover its underpayment of fees based on its contract with the City Government.

Mayor Monico Puentevella, who inspected the slaughterhouse and observed its operation Thursday, said operator AVM Bernardo Engineering was supposed to pay the city P64,000 a month, but the operator is only paying P30,000.

AVM Bernardo has also been operating without registered receipts from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for several years, the mayor added.

He said that when AVM Bernardo Engineering was required to comply, the company decided to pass on the 12 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) to meat vendors.

Michael Yosingco, president of the Meat Vendors Association, along with Vonz Mangalus, former president of Libertad Market Vendors Association, said they are against the operation of AVM Bernardo, because of the 12 percent VAT being passed on to them.

AVM Bernardo manager Glorydee Cometa promised Puentevella on Thursday that their company will comply with all the requirements, especially the installation of a storage facility within 60 days.

City Legal Office lawyer Cesar Beloria said last week that AVM Bernardo failed to comply with some of the provisions of the memorandum of agreement it signed with the City Government about six years ago. (CNC)
