A FIRE hit a warehouse on Araneta Highway, Barangay Tangub in Bacolod City on Wednesday morning and lasted until the evening, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
Chief Inspector Bartolome Beliran, city fire marshal, said they received the alarm informing them that RCO Merchandising Warehouse was on fire at 11:33 a.m.
Several fire trucks were immediately dispatched as the fire reached the general alarm status, which means all the BFP sub-stations and fire volunteers in the city are called to respond to the area.
A fire truck from Bago City also responded.
Beliran said they had a hard time in stopping the fire because the warehouse, which is owned by Teresita Co, contained flammable materials like plastics, woods and textiles, among others.
The fire department received a report that there was a renovation in the area and a welding machine was used, which may have caused the fire.
Beliran, however, said they are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of fire and the total amount of damage.
City Mayor Monico Puentevella and Assocuation of Barangay Captains president Noli Villaros were also present to check the warehouse.
Puentevella said that probably next, the City Government will start conduct seminars to all villages on how to avoid fire incidents.
The mayor said that fire incident should serve as a wake-up call to business establishment owners to be vigilant against fire incidents.
