THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) is monitoring foreigners in Negros Occidental to check if they are working or doing business in the Philippines even if they were only issued a temporary visa.

Casimiro Madarang III, alien control officer of Bacolod City, said 20 foreigners were already brought to their office to verify their legal documents, including their passports and visas.

Magarang said immigration agents are authorized to check the documents of foreigners because they have a mission order from Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison.

The BI has conducted a mapping operation for the second time. The first was held in October last year with Bacolod as the first area of operation, Madarang said.

Last week, Taiwanese national Gary Tsai was arrested by the police in Hinigaran town. Tsai was considered by the BI as "undesirable, a fugitive from justice and an undocumented alien" and may face summary deportation, Madarang said.

Tsai, with the aliases of Tsai Yung Pin and Pin Tsai Yung, posted a bail of P40,000 two hours after his arrest on February 5. He was then transferred to the BI custody.

Tsai showed that he was born July 25, 1954 and he arrived in the Philippines on November 11, 2011, according to the BID's Centralized Query Support System (CQSS) dated February 5.

Tsai was apprehended by virtue of warrant of arrest for large scale estafa issued by Judge Noemi Balita-an of Parañaque Regional Trial Court.
