Cockfighting banned at Vendors Plaza-A A +A
Wednesday, February 5, 2014
COCKFIGHTING inside the Vendors Plaza will no longer be allowed, Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella said Tuesday.
“The Philippine National Police Regional Office said that cockfighting will not be allowed except during barangay fiesta and similar occasion with the consent of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod. Once they receive reports that there is cockfighting there without a permit, the police will take care of them,” Puentevella said.
He said the village chief also has no authority to grant permit for cockfights.
The mayor said that businesses at the Vendors Plaza, meanwhile, are slowly picking up and patronized by Bacolodnons because of the spacious market and availability of a parking lot.
Puentevella said there is a need to amend the existing ordinance on the Vendors Plaza to address the limited number of jeepney routes allowed to have a terminal in the area.
Only three routes, including Punta Taytay, Granada and Alangilan, are allowed to hold their terminal at the Vendors Plaza.
He also thanked the vendors in the vicinity of the Vendors Plaza for their cooperation as they voluntarily demolished their shanties.
