City police eyeing security guards to man HQ gates-A A +A

SENIOR Superintendent Edgardo Ordaniel, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office, said Tuesday he is in favor of hiring security guards to secure the gates of police headquarters.
Ordaniel said at the BCPO, policemen are assigned to man the gate instead of performing police jobs.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Alan Purisima had earlier said they will hire security guards to secure the main gates of Camp Crame.
Purisima said this is part of the efforts of the PNP to remove police officers from desk jobs and deploy them to the streets to boost the anti-crime campaign.
Ordaniel said this is the main reason why the PNP is now hiring more than 7,000 non-uniformed personnel (NUP).
He said at present, the police to population ratio stands at one policeman for every 900 people, which is way below the ideal figure of one police for every 500 people.
Ordaniel said applicants for NUP positions can submit an application letter addressed to police regional director, Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, with duly accomplished personal data sheet; transcript of records and diploma; certificate of eligibility; certificate of training; certificate of employment, if any; National Bureau of Investigation clearance; National Statistics Office (NSO) birth certificate; and NSO marriage contract, if applicable.
Ordaniel added that the BCPO has a quota of 50 NUP positions.
He said the NUP will be assigned to different offices of BCPO while police officers will be deployed to the streets to improve visibility patrol operations.
