GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. ordered Tuesday the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) to conduct a deeper investigation into the murder of a cop in Hinigaran town last Sunday.

Marañon said there could be something more than the shooting of Senior Police Officer 2 Rex de los Reyes, adding that there were six suspects involved, but one of them evaded arrest.

The governor directed Senior Superintendent Milko Lirazan, acting provincial police director, to alert all police stations in the province to intensify the investigation since the incident also involves the proliferation of firearms possessed by suspected criminals.

The police recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition as well as explosives from the suspects.

Marañon also said the suspects are part of a "big syndicate and the sixth suspect who managed to evade arrest may be a key player in their group.”

He said that two of the suspects, Vicente Poleros, 36, and Eduardo Montano, 43, are from Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

The three others are Michael Jancilan, 37, of Iloilo City; Opiniano Dolar, 51, of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental; and Roger Garilba, 28, of Cabatuan, Iloilo.

The five, who are facing murder complaint before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, are detained at the lock-up cell of Hinigaran Police Station.

The sixth suspect is reportedly a son of a politician.

"Maybe they are planning a bigger crime in the province that is why some of the suspects came all the way from Iloilo," the governor said.

De los Reyes, 43, who was gunned down inside the Bulubitoon Beach Resort, succumbed to injuries in various parts of his body, including two bullet wounds in the head.

Lirazan said Tuesday over Aksyon Radyo Bacolod that the Hinigaran police station led by Chief Inspector Lino Dalisay could not still determine the motive of the murder.

He added that the case investigator received information that there is someone influential behind the killing but they don’t have concrete information regarding the said report.

The three suspects with their two companions were arrested by Pontevedra town policemen during a hot pursuit operation in Hacienda Espinos, Barangay Camandag, La Castellana less than an hour after they killed De los Reyes.

The three assailants boarded a crimson red Nissan Urvan Escapade.

Lirazan said they will coordinate with the rent-a-car company that own the vehicle used by the suspects.

The police will also check if the suspects are gun-for-hires, he added.
