BACOLOD City Administrator Rolando Villamor said he supports the creation of Barangay Paglaum as the 62nd village of the city despite the opposition from Barangay Mansilingan.

Villamor said that as resident of Mansilingan, he understands the current predicament of the concerned barangay, which is one of the biggest in the city in terms of territory and population. Mansilingan has 1,500 hectares of land territory and more than 43,000 population.

Villamor said clearly those opposing or advocating for a “No” vote in the coming plebiscite on January 11, Saturday, are current officials and employees of Barangay Mansilingan.

“It is understandable since a huge slice of the Internal Revenue Allotment share of Mansilingan will be affected thus their benefits and honoraria will also be affected,” he added.

"(But) I am happy to note that the members of the barangay council of Mansilingan are not unanimous in their opposition to the creation of Barangay Paglaum," he said.

Villamor even questioned the motive of those opposing the creation of another barangay, saying their move indicates personal interest.

Barangay Paglaum will be composed of certain areas that are part of Barangay Mansilingan at present.

Villamor said there are also two members of the barangay council who declared their support to the convenors of Barangay Paglaum.(CNC)
