FIVE suspects of the shooting incident of a police officer at a beach resort in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Sunday are facing a murder complaint.

Senior Police Office 2 Rex de los Reyes, 43, a resident of West Avenue, Timawa Molo, Iloilo City, succumbed to injuries in various parts of his body, including two bullet wounds in the head.

Chief Inspector Lino Dalisay, Hinigaran police chief, said the five suspects were presented to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings and were brought to the crime laboratory for paraffin tests.

He identified the suspects as Michael Jancilan, 37, of Barangay Malipayon, Iloilo City; Opiniano Dolar, 51, of Barangay San Juan, Kabankalan City; Roger Garilba, 28, of Cabatuan, Iloilo; Vicente Poleros, 36, of Barangay Alimango, Escalante City; and Eduardo Montano, 43, of Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City.

Dalisay, however, said that they are still investigation the motive of the crime.

He said the filing of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives complaint will follow after the paraffin and ballistics examinations.

Dalisay added that one of the suspects, Jancilan, has a pending warrant of arrest for the murder of a policeman.

The victim arrived at Bulubitoon Beach in Barangay Miranda on board his car around 4 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses said the victim was texting on his cellular phone when two men approached him and shot him successively. Another person took his cellular phone and car keys, proceeded to the victim’s car, and destroyed the left window using his firearm and took a black bag inside the car.
The three assailants left on board a crimson red Nissan Urvan Escapade.

A hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted by the Hinigaran police in coordination with the police stations in the neighboring localities.

The suspects were intercepted by personnel of Pontevedra Police Station assigned at Hacienda Espinos, Barangay Camandag, La Castellana at around 4:30 p.m.

Dalisay said the suspects did not resist arrest.

Delos Reyes is considered absent without leave (AWOL) after he failed to report to his assignment at the Police Regional Office of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) effective January 1, 2013. (With reports from MAP)
