-A A +A

BACOLOD City Mayor Monico O. Puentevella and city officials have already assumed post noontime Sunday but were still groping for answers as to the real state of the city.

Puentevella said they will know it partially on Thursday as his people are still validating what was turned over and reported.

"We will have a better eye view of the situation on Thursday. The figures given by the past administration this week were the same figures as of March 31, 2013. The months of April, May and June 2013 were not included in the report. What we want to know is what is the situation now and I can get that after two to three days from the Budget Officer, Treasurer, among others," he said.

Former Bacolod City mayor and now Congressman Evelio R. Leonardia has reported in his State of the City Address (Soca) recently that there are more or less P747 million in bank deposits, surplus and other sources that can be dispensed by the new administration.

But Puentevella said those figures were as of March 31 and don't represent the real situation per se.

He said that to be fair to the past administration, he will have a better view after the validation and the partial of it will be out by Thursday.

He added that they will do a lot of diggings as to the records and documents.

Puentevella and his men assumed post 12 noon Sunday. He simply went to the Bacolod City Government Center in his white t-shirt, maong pants, and rubber shoes. He was with his wife Josefa Puentevella and sons.

The new mayor was welcomed by former Secretary to the Mayor Moises Dela Cruz, former city legal officer Joselito Bayatan and former public information officer Rodel Parcon.

Puentevella roamed around the Government Center and had held a meeting with his assistants.

Bacolod City police acting director Senior Superintendent Edgardo Ordaniel was also around as to inspect and secure the premises.

Puentevella in an interview said, "The people have spoken. The elections are over. A new family now has taken over City Hall. I am glad and thankful to the people of Bacolod for giving us the chance to serve. We are what you call from now on as servant leaders."

He said he wants to bring City Hall closer to the puroks and  barangays. He wants change a new kind of leadership that will reach out of the people especially to the private sector.

The Bacolod Government Center will now be called as the "People's Hall."
