NEGROS Occidental will have a new Comelec supervisor effective Monday, February 4, in the person of lawyer Wil Arceno.

Lawyer Jessie Suarez, outgoing provincial Comelec supervisor, bared this, as he also confirmed his assignment to the Iloilo Provincial Comelec Office effective February 4.

Arceno is from Capiz, where he was also the provincial Comelec supervisor prior to his assignment in Negros.

Suarez said all Comelec provincial supervisors in the entire Western Visayas are re-shuffled effective Monday. With this, Ian Ananoria from Aklan is assigned to Antique; Gil Arcenal from Antique is assigned to Guimaras; Roberto Salazar from Guimaras is transferred to Aklan; and Elizabeth Doronela from Iloilo is transferred to Capiz.

The re-shuffling takes effect until June 12, which is the end of the election period.

Suarez said he believes there is no politics involved in the reshuffling because he also believes in the impartiality of the commission that would not give in to political demands.

He said they were informed earlier about the reshuffling.

Suarez also emphasized that they would always stick to their mandate to protect the will of the people and that they would stay neutral for the coming May 2013 elections.

Suarez, who was a practicing lawyer, joined Comelec as the Cadiz City election officer in 2001 and has served as provincial Comelec supervisor of Negros since 2007.

Suarez confirmed that with the reshuffling of the provincial supervisors, he is very sure that the reshuffling of election officers in the towns and cities of the province will also take place very soon. (TDE)
