THE best and the most creative product designs of the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) will be exhibited and judged starting today at the opening of the 24th Bulawan Awards at Robinsons Place Bacolod.

Special guests from the public and private sector are invited to the opening rites at 2 p.m. The exhibit will run until July 27.

The Bulawan Awards is an annual product design and competition which recognizes outstanding products by its members. It is designed to encourage ingenuity, creativity and commitment in terms of product innovation, packaging and the development of new market-driven products that are competitive in both domestic and international markets.

This year's Bulawan Awards, with the theme, "Smile Beyond Borders," aims to help further the survivors of the super typhoon Yolanda which struck the Visayas in November last year.

Responding to the catastrophe wrought by Yolanda, many ANP members tapped the survivors as subcontractors, suppliers and even taught them basic skills to start their own livelihood.

There will be winners for each category: fashion and jewelry; gifts and house wares; furniture and furnishings; and food. Special awards will also be given namely, best in design excellence; best in craftsmanship, best in visual impact and, best in the use of indigenous material from Yolanda-stricken areas.

Through the years, Bulawan Awards has produced numerous products which became very successful not only in the local market but even for export. The award is a vehicle for many members to develop products for any national and international exhibitions.

This is also in preparation for the upcoming Annual Negros Trade Fair of ANP where Bulawan entries will be exhibited and sold on at the Glorietta Mall in Makati City on September 23-28, 2014. (PR)
