BACOLOD will host the July 2014 tour of the Colonial, a multi-sensorial and transnational solo dance-theatre piece presentation by a group of Filipino and Filipino-Canadian artists from Vancouver, Canada.

Colonial will have a three-night performance at the Gallaga Theater of the University of St. La Salle from July 28 to August 1 starting 6:30 p.m.

Colonial is headed by artistic director Alvin Erasga, founder of Vancouver-based CO.ERASGA and co-director Dennis Gupa, both faculty members of the University of British Columbia.

The tour is sponsored by City Government of Bacolod through Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the SP Committee on Tourism, and Local and International Cooperation, in cooperation the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod Artists Hub, and the Bacolod Girl Scouts Council.

Colonial won a grant award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 2012 and received a grant from the University of the Philippines, reaching more than 2,000 audience members from Laguna, Bicol and Quezon City.

It had its very successful world premiere in Vancouver and Montreal, Canada. From last year’s successful tour, the group hopes to reach more and connect with local communities to use arts as a springboard for development.

The group has also committed to give forum and workshop on directing, contemporary dance and technical theatre that would enhance the students’ and teachers’ appreciation of the culture and the arts.
