SHE’S happy now.

Four months ago, she was silently staring at the totally destroyed house built by her husband when they were 19 years old. Four months ago, she was silently crying, thinking of how a 77-year-old, whose children are in Manila, could rebuild what Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) stole.

The Masskara Festival this Year

Saturday, August 31, 2013 - 12:57 a.m.

THIS year is truly special. Not only are we celebrating the 33rd Masskara Festival and the 75th anniversary of Bacolod as a charter city. After decades of celebrating the Masskara Festival, we would finally have a pretty view in the heart of the city to show off to our guests. The good news, everyone, is that we will have a beautiful unobstructed look at the public plaza. At the August 29 press conference at the Bacolod City Government Center, Mayor Monico Puentevella assured the audience that our famous square will be spared from the ukay-ukay booths, the unsightly kiosks, and the makeshift establishments selling beer and other alcohol drinks. (Look ma, no more smell!) Wonderful news this is, indeed. Now, tourists can tour the 1920’s plaza and take photos of the bandstand, the checkerboard floor on which it stands, the tindalo tree that President Manuel L. Quezon planted to commemorate the charter day of Bacolod, and the San Sebastian Cathedral just across.

She has a perfect 36-24-36 body figure and her voluptuous hips sway gracefully as she walks past by. Witiwew — I could almost hear the guys whistling right now. It’s hard not to imagine such a woman turning heads as she saunters down an alley, gathering awed and admiring looks from the men and possibly a few green-eyed glances from the women.

SUMMER is in the offing. And with this season of the year, the question for most is: where would you go this summer?

For those with wanderlust who can afford the luxury of plane rides and visa fees, summer would mean an out-of-the-country vacation. For us ordinary Juans, the “it’s-fun-to-be-in-the Philippines” tagline spells an airplane, a ferry, a bus or a shuttle ride in one of the greenest nooks or cool springs in the country. And for the locals, a trip to a one must-place-to-visit site in this island is one of the splurges we can give ourselves as a summer treat.
